As a young BMX rider at the end of the 90s/beginning of the 2000s, I had the desire to document my own experiences with the crew and of course the tricks we tried back then. By admiring the pictures of other sports photographers, e.g. from the 2004 BMX World Championships in Cologne or in magazines, e.g. from the Cape Epic mountain bike marathon stage race in South Africa, combined with my curiosity about how they were created, a deep passion for photography developed over time. My initial interest was further fuelled by my first ‘tool’: A 1988 Minolta Dynax 3000i with a 35mm fixed focal length from my father. It was incredible to be able to capture my experiences on film for the first time and share them with others in the BMX community. This was followed by the leap into the digital world of photography with a compact camera and the opportunity to simply try things out without having to use expensive film. A world opened up in which I learnt how to create a photograph myself using photographic creative options. Since then, my passion for photography in the world of sport has been unbroken.
